Depression sucks. I’ve encountered many folks in my clinic who suffer from depression, and it’s not easy. One day you’re fine, and the next you’re having trouble getting out of bed. The disease affects a person’s emotions, thinking, and behavior and can lead to many other mental and physical problems. Prolonged negative emotions can make it difficult at work, disrupt friendships or family relationships, and even lead to suicidal thoughts. These adverse effects of depression explain why people often call depression sucks!

Who is prone to depression?

About 10-15% of the general population suffers from depression at some stage in life. Depression can occur at any age, but about 50% of patients with depression are between the ages of 20 and 50, with an average age of 40.

The incidence is increasing in subjects under 20 years of age, the cause may be related to the increasing status of alcohol and substance abuse in this age group. The rate of depression in women is twice as high as in men, most often in people with poor social relationships or single or divorced people.

Depression sufferers frequently share some traits. They frequently have a tendency to feel like outsiders, that they aren’t good enough or likeable, that they are constantly making mistakes, and that if they try, they will fail or be rejected. When they do receive favorable attention, sad people frequently wonder why people like them. 

They frequently don’t believe in positive and could even reject the care they so much want. Receiving care and attention while being vulnerable is almost more unsettling than not receiving care.

Sometimes we become so at ease in our own surroundings that we don’t want to leave. Although you’re not alone there, leaving the house is incredibly beneficial for your mental health. Drive, have a coffee, stroll through your favorite store, check out a new eatery, or go hiking. Anything you like to do outside the house can be beneficial.

2.       Exercise

Exercise is the most natural approach to feel better quickly. Anyway, you can move your body! You can go for a walk, hike, crazy dance, yoga class, or whatever. Exercise for 15 minutes can improve your mood for up to 12 hours, did you know? Exercise doesn’t often sound very tempting when you’re depressed, despite the fact that it seems like a no-brainer.

3.       Start to write journal

We can get our thoughts straightened out, solve problems, and process our emotions via journaling. Additionally, it serves as a record keeper, allowing us to look back on earlier experiences and pinpoint our triggers. In therapy, journaling is frequently used to address melancholy and anxiety. It’s a wonderful idea to start by recording your day for just 5 to 10 minutes.

4.       Share with friends and family

Trust me, They understand Depression Sucks! This is a challenging one. I have a hard time with that. However, I’ve discovered that when I turn to the people I trust the most to not condemn me, they genuinely care about how I’m doing and want to support me. I feel better just having them listen, even though they might not be able to help. A strong force, love. And knowing that your loved ones genuinely care about the course of your life might restore hope and motivation to improve.

5.       Create a Morning Schedule

Studies have shown that people who suffer greatly benefit from routine. Don’t stay in bed and create make an easy habit to follow that will help you to start each day off on the right foot. 

  1. I start by washing my face, moisturizing it, and brushing my teeth.
  2. After that, I make my bed. I don’t spend much time on this, but I make sure it looks excellent.
  3. Then, I take my pills and drink some water.
  4. I read, journal, or meditate for 10 minutes. Flexibility is essential here because varied moods can make some of these things more difficult than others.
  5. I prepare coffee and relax for 10-15 minutes. It is simply sitting and enjoying the day.

 6. Laugh

The best treatment for depression is laughter, which can restore your joy. Watching a comedy film or watching a comedy show can help you feel better quickly by diverting your attention. Laugh till your cheeks hurt by going to a comedy club.

7.       Morning Meditation

Setting a good aim for the day and clearing away any bad energy can be accomplished by beginning each morning with gratitude practice and meditation. It’s not necessary for meditation to be difficult or daunting.

This provides your mind better, and easier to focus on the things you want to do. For five minutes, anything is possible. Simply carry on with the same procedure until you feel like you’ve spent the recommended five minutes, or longer if you choose.

You’ll realize how simple it is once you stop putting pressure on yourself, and you’ll probably want to continue for longer; just keep committing to 5 minutes at a time. For an additional joyful boost, incorporate some soothing music or aromatherapy.
