Is depression caused by summer’s arrival? The answer is definitely yes for someone. Summer depression is even called seasonal affective disorder, or SAD. However, Depression Open Talks will leave science behind and take a romantic approach to summertime blues through the song of Girl in Red.
About Girl in Red
Girl in Red is a pop music project of Marie Ulven who is a Norwegian. Ulven has endowed her words to produce depressing songs which truly show teenage worries, depression, confusion and heartache and her own struggles with mental illness. With her infectious and understandable energy, this have touched the hearts of millions of fans.
Summer Depression and quick analysis of some lyrics
Ulven’s songs give off a chill 80s vibe with that touch of millenial and big slap of reality. The melody sounds happy but when you really listen to it, it sounds so bittersweet.
[Intro]
De…De…Depression
Teenage suicide
Why girls?
Emotional
Social anxiety
From the beginning, this song has repeated different turbulent states of mind to capture a gloomy and grotesque atmosphere. And we are caught by her rhetorical question: Why girls? Why are girls who are always stuck with depression and sadness? Or it seems like people only think of girls when it comes to depression, but actually so do boys.
[Verse 1]
Pretty face with pretty bad dreams
No one knows I cry in my sleep
Waking up feeling like sh*t
It’s a normal thing to feel like this
I don’t care
I’m feeling down
I wanna stay home
Never go outside
Summer depression comes every year
I just want to disappear (depression)
The fact that mental conditions ruin teenage years is also pretty sad. As we listen to these lines, we feel deeply sympathy for people affected by mental illness. Weep the night away and nightmares happen regularly. Turn on ourselves and even want to disappear.
[Chorus & Verse 2]
[Chorus]
Summer depression
There’s so much time to question my life
It’s my
Summer depression
[Verse 2]
My worst habit
Is my own sadness
So I stay up all night
Wondering why I’m so tired all the time
All my friends are doing things
It’s good for them
But I’m nothing
Summer depression comes every year
I just want to disappear (depression)
Aside from love, peer pressure is another culprit of depression. People have all achieved their own success while you are struggling with social anxiety and the like. Peer pressure lies heavy on our head.
[Chorus]
Summer depression (why?)
There’s so much time to question my life
Summer depression
It’s my
Summer depression
Teenage suicide
Why girls?
Emotional
Social anxiety
Depression
Summer depression
There’s so much time to question my life
Summer depression
It’s my
Summer depression
Depression
The song really touches our heart and truly describes perfectly the feelings some people have during summer. Summer is a charming season with lots of sunshine, but depression always hits some harder. Particularly, to all the depressed kids, we all go through this.
In all, decompress, my darling. Do not be swallowed up by millions of thoughts and toxic things like suicide, social anciety or peer pressure. Live the moment and even your life is a maze, you will find your own way to escape when the right time comes.
Depression Open Talks has recently posted another related song called All the kids are depressed. Listening and swaying in time to the music is an excellent choice to escape from summertime sadness.
